Tips and Tricks - Warming up the Best Australian Pies

Tips and Tricks from the Byron Gourmet Pies Kitchen: Perfecting the Art of Warming up the best Australian Pies

At Byron Gourmet Pies, we’re passionate about creating the best-tasting pies, and we want you to enjoy them just the way they were meant to be savoured. Whether you're heating up one of our pies for a quick meal or serving them at a gathering, here are some insider tips and techniques to make sure your pie is perfectly warm, with flaky pastry and a delicious filling.

Conventional Oven vs. Microwave: Go for the Oven

For the best results, we recommend heating your pies in a conventional oven rather than a microwave. This ensures that the pastry stays crisp and flaky. An extra tip is to place a small oven-proof dish filled with water at the bottom of the oven while heating. This adds a touch of moisture to keep the pastry tender on the inside while still crisping up beautifully on the outside.

Oven Heating Tips

·       Thawed Pies: Preheat your oven to 160°C and heat for 20–25 minutes.

·       Frozen Pies: Preheat to 150°C and heat for 40–45 minutes.

The pies can be heated in their original wrappings, making the process even easier!

Microwave Heating Tips
While we prefer the oven method, if you’re short on time, you can still get great results from a microwave. Just be sure to follow these steps:

·       Thawed Pies: Heat on high for 1 minute and 45 seconds, then let the pie stand for 30 seconds before eating.

·       Frozen Pies: First, defrost for 3 minutes, then heat on high for 2 minutes. Again, let the pie stand for 30 seconds before serving.

The Secret to Thawing Pies
The best way to thaw your Byron Gourmet Pies is to let them defrost slowly in the fridge overnight. This gentle method preserves the texture and flavour of the pie, so it's ready to heat and enjoy the next day. Once thawed, remember not to refreeze the pies.

Storage Tips

·       Store pies at -18°C to keep them fresh for future use.

·       Once thawed, pies can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days before you enjoy them.

·       If you're using a pie warmer, set it to 80°C to keep your pies hot and ready after they’ve been heated in the oven.

Note: These heating instructions are a guideline and may vary slightly depending on your oven or microwave. Keep an eye on your pie to make sure it’s heated to perfection!
